Jim Lindner Presents Interactive Poster at 2nd Annual Imaging Science & Technology Archiving Conference

Washington DC – April 28, 2005 -- Jim Lindner, Managing Member of Media Matters and internationally respected authority on the preservation and migration of magnetic media, took part in the Interactive Poster Session at the 2005 Imaging Science & Technology (IS&T) Archiving Conference in Washington DC. The title of his poster, and the paper he co-authored for the IS&T's 2005 Archiving Conference catalog,
is Moving Beyond Manual Media Migration: An examination of how automation can improve on traditional media migration practices.

This second conference hosted by the Imaging Science & Technology Association solely dedicated to archiving issues in the field of imaging brought together a diverse group of attendees from academia, industry, museums, libraries, government institutions, and not-for-profit organizations. The goal was to build a unique international community that brings together multiple organizations and specialties in the domain of archiving and preservation to promote the exchange of information across specialties in the field.

The Interactive Poster session is a key feature of the conference and provides the opportunity for presenters and attendees to mingle and discuss results presented using a variety of media formats. Mr. Lindner’s poster illustrated the issues and concerns regarding traditional media migration methods and how the process can be significantly improved through automation.

The paper, co-authored by Mr. Lindner and Gilad Rosner, systems integrator at Media Matters, explores the subject in depth and examines how traditional migration methods fail on many different levels when migrating large videotape collection. It summarizes how this process can be streamlined by creating a “preservation factory” approach and how this can be accomplished through automated processes.

Media Matters LLC has over a dozen years of expertise with media migration, and is dedicated to taking traditional migration strategies into the 21st century by researching, developing, and deploying cutting-edge digital media technology focused specifically on the needs of archives and the challenges of magnetic media.
